Although the LaLiga title race involved 4 teams, only 2 are left in the race, as Barcelona now have only 1 win in their previous 5 games, and Sevilla lost twice and drew once in theirs. Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid, meanwhile, are still very much in the title race, and separated by only two points, with Atleti at the top of the table.

However, in the previous matchday, which is also the second last one, Los Blancos nearly went ahead. Real Madrid won their match against Athletic Club 1-0, with Nacho scoring in the 68th minute.

Atleti, on the other hand, were losing to Osasuna until the 82nd minute, which is when Renan Lodi equalised. Unfortunately for Real Madrid, Luis Suárez scored a late winner in the 88th minute of the match. Had Atleti lost the match, they would have been on 80 points after the match, which would have been a point behind Real. Even if they had tied, they would have been in second. Both teams would have been tied with 81 points, but Real would have been ahead, as they won their first head-to-head match of the season and the second one was a tie.

Now the LaLiga champions will be decided in the final matchday of the season, where Atlético Madrid will have to face Real Valladolid, who are currently 19th in the league, and Real Madrid will have to face Villarreal, who are currently 7th in the league. If both teams win, lose or tie, Atleti will be crowned league champions for the first time since 2014, but if Real win and Atleti lose or even tie, Los Blancos will be crowned as the champions of Spain for the second season in a row.
