West Ham United 2020/2021 Premier League season recap

This season has been West Ham United’s best since the 1998/1999 season. Although The Hammers finished 16th last season, barely escaping relegation, they have finished 6th this season.

Despite losing their first 2 games of the season, they won their 3rd 4-0 against Wolves. However, they had to face Leicester City, Tottenham, Manchester City and Liverpool next. Impressively, they managed to beat Leicester and draw with Tottenham and City, but they lost to Liverpool. Nevertheless, that certainly did not stop them from winning their next 3 games.

The Hammers were 4th for a few matchdays but ended the season 6th with 65 points. They won 19 matches, drew 8 and lost 11. Their finish in 6th position gave them a spot in next season’s UEFA Europa League.

For many West Ham players, this season has been one of the best, if not the best one of their entire careers. Thomáš Souček, Jesse Lingard, Declan Rice and Vladimír Coufal in particular have had extremely impressive seasons. Although Souček is a defensive midfielder, he is West Ham’s joint top goal scorer this season (tied with Michail Antonio). Lingard, on loan at West Ham from Manchester United, scored 9 goals and provided 4 assists in 16 appearances.
