This season’s start was one of Everton’s best in a long time, which was not too surprising as they had signed some world-class players, like James Rodríguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucouré. They won their first 4 games. Everton hadn’t been in such good form for a long time. The Toffees’ next game was the Merseyside derby, which was the most highly anticipated one in a long time. Everton drew 2-2. That was where their form started to drop, and Everton only won 1 out of their next 6 matches. Still, they remained contenders of making it to European football till the end of the season was near. Their last match resulted in an embarrassing 5-0 defeat to the league champions, Manchester City. Everton finished 10th in the league, with 17 wins, 8 draws and 13 defeats
Many of Everton’s players had great seasons, like Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Michael Keane and James Rodríguez. In 35 appearances (2 as a substitute), Keane had 51 interceptions, 156 clearances, 111 aerial battles won, 1 last man tackle, 3 goals scored and 1 assist provided in an exceptional season.
Although James was injured often during the season, his performances were usually impressive when he played. He finished the season with 6 goals and 4 assists in 23 appearances (2 as a substitute).
Calvert-Lewin, however, arguably had the best season out of all the Everton players. He started the season with a goal in his first match and a hat-trick in his second. He scored at least one goal in each of his first 5 matches of the season and was a contender for the Golden Boot award for most of the season.
