Argentina beat Italy to win first ever Finalissima

This season is the first one in which the Finalissima has been introduced. It is played between the winners of the Euros and the Copa América. This first ever one was played between Argentina and Italy.

Argentina had a rather easy 3-0 win over Italy. They scored their first goal in the 28th minute of the match. Lautaro Martínez was the man who put the ball into the back of the net, following a great assist from captain and star player Lionel Messi.

Lautaro Martínez went on to provide an assist in the stoppage time before half time. Ángel Di Maria scored this time, and it is fair to say that he very rarely disappoints when playing for his national team.

Argentina very clearly dominated the second half as well, and finally managed to score in the 4th minute of stoppage time, with the last kick of the match. Lionel Messi provided his second assist of the match and Paulo Dybala, who stepped onto the pitch only 3 minutes earlier, scored the final goal.

Argentina had more possession than Italy and had 17 shots (10 on target), wheres Italy only managed to get 7 (3 on target).

Unlike Italy’s last match at Wembley (when they won the Euros), this one ended in disappointment. This loss rubbed salt in the wounds of the Italian players, who recently failed to qualify for this year’s FIFA World Cup as well, for the second time in a row.

Lionel Messi won the Man of the Match award, which was well deserved after his fantastic performance, providing assists for 2 out of the 3 goals of the match.

These Argentine players have made history, winning the first ever Finalissima.
