Lewandowski wants to leave Bayern Munich to join Barcelona

Robert Lewandowski has expressed his desire to leave Bayern Munich after 8 years of playing there. He was the Bundesliga champion all 8 years of his career in Bayern Munich and won a UEFA Champions League as well.

Lewandowski has also been top scorer of the Bundesliga in 6 out of the 8 seasons he has played at Bayern (he was the Bundesliga’s top scorer in 2013/2014 as well when he was in Borussia Dortmund), and broke Gerd Müllers record of most goals in a single Bundesliga season by one goal, scoring 41 in the 2020/2021 season.

He is considered by most to have been the best player of the 2019/2020 season, when he helped Bayern win the sextuple and was top scorer of and won the Champions League as well as the Bundesliga. However, since many matches that season were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ballon d’Or award was cancelled. Lewandowski was the favourite to win the award.

After these 8 amazing seasons, he has decided to move on from Bayern and the Bundesliga. FC Barcelona are expected to sign him soon.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Lewandowski has said in a press conference:
“My era at FC Bayern is now over. I don’t see any possibility to continue playing for Bayern anymore.”
“Bayern’s a serious club and I believe they won’t keep me, I don’t want to play there next season.”
“I’m sure that a transfer this summer is the best solution for all parties. I hope they don’t stop me.”

FC Barcelona are expected to sign him on a 3 year contract, which is reportedly what Lewandowski wants. However, Barça and Bayern have not yet agreed on the fee.

It is time to see if Robert Lewandowski can prove himself in LaLiga, considered by most to be more difficult than the Bundesliga. Him and Karim Benzema are 2 of this season’s top scorers in Europe, who are soon expected to play for rival teams.
