Wednesday:
The second group of matches at the UEFA Euros 2024 kicked off with a thriller 2-2 draw between Croatia and Albania. Albania took the lead early, conceded twice, and then scored a winner in the 5th minute of stoppage time. This game was followed by a 2-0 win for Germany over Hungary, and then a 1-1 draw between Scotland and Switzerland, keeping Scotlands qualification hopes alive.
Thursday:
The next day was comparatively low scoring. Slovenia vs Serbia and England vs Denmark both ended 1-1, with English fans left very disappointed with their team’s performance. Coming into the tournament as favorites their fans did not expect a draw against Denmark. And in the last match of the day, arguably the most highly anticipated one, Spain beat Italy 1-0.
Friday:
The next day began with a 2-1 win for Ukraine over Slovakia. This was followed by Austria crushing the qualification hopes of Poland by beating them 3-1, as with 2 losses in 2 games qualification would be very difficult for Poland. The last match of the day was a 0-0 draw between France and the Netherlands. Despite great chances from France and a disallowed goal from the Netherlands, neither team managed to score.
Saturday:
The final day of the second phase of the group stage kicked off with a 1-1 draw between Czechia and Georgia, followed by a crushing 3-0 victory for Portugal over Turkey. Cristiano Ronaldo’s assist to Bruno Fernandez made him the player with the most assists in the history of the competition. Finally, Belgium beat Romania 2-0. A goal from Youri Tielmans put them in front, followed by an amazing goal from Kevin de Bruyne to secure the much-needed victory for Belgium.
